Data Recovery Software
When to use it and when not to
Sometimes, you don’t need a data recovery company to recover your data, instead you can do it yourself. First of all you need to determine the root cause of your data loss.
Use of data recovery software is only appropriate when the physical device that holds the data is still functioning correctly. If the device is physically damaged, eg. if it is no longer registering, has been dropped, has water damage, or is making ticking / buzzing / beeping noises, data recovery software will not work.
Using data recovery software is ideal in these situations:
- Hard Drives
- Deleted data
- File system corruption
- Reinstalled O/S
- Reformatted drives
- Partially overwritten data
- Repartitioned hard drives
- Please note, a hard drive that is no longer recognised by the computer will not respond to data recovery software. The drive is physically damaged and will need to come in. Please contact us for further assistance.
- Phones
- Missing data
- Please note, modern memory management on phones is extremely thorough and deleted data tends to be overwritten very quickly. Once overwritten there is no chance of recovering the data
- SD cards and memory sticks
- Accidental formatting or data deletion
- Partial data overwrites
- If the card / stick is no longer recognised it has physical damage and software recovery will not work. Please contact us for guidance.
